Our Purpose
from Article II of the Hardwick Baptist Church Constitution, adopted July 1996

The purpose of this body shall be to provide opportunities for Christian worship and service; to propagate the "good news" at home and throughout the world in cooperation with other churches in this association and the Georgia Baptist Convention; to practice the ordinances, doctrines, and stewardship and ethics as set forth in the New Testament by our Lord Jesus Christ; to nurture its members through programs of Christian education; and in all these to strive earnestly to magnify Christ in our personal and private devotion through the leadership of the Holy Spirit.

Our Beliefs
from Article III of the Hardwick Baptist Church Constitution, adopted July 1996

Our beliefs are based on truth revealed by the Holy Spirit through the Holy scriptures.  These are founded on our historical understanding of doctrines presented in The Baptist Faith and Message adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention in 1963.

Our History
Hardwick Baptist Church began as a mission in 1910 in the community known then as Midway, just south of the City of Milledgeville.  The Midway Baptist Mission was constituted as Midway Baptist Church in 1912 with Rev. W.D. Dewell as Pastor.  In 1914, the congregation constructed its first meeting house with volunteer help.  The church was received into the Washington Baptist Association in 1917.  With the establishment of a Post Office in the Midway Community in 1913, the area gradually took on the name Hardwick.  The Post Office had been named for former Georgia Governor, Tom Hardwick.  The name of the Midway Baptist Church was changed to Hardwick Baptist Church in 1939.  The present structure was dedicated in 1950.  With continued growth the Hardwick Baptist Sunday School eventually used five separate buildings at its present site until a new educational wing was added to the same structure in 1970.

Throughout its years of history, the church has remained strong in faith and supportive of mission causes.  The Spirit of God has led this people, to be a great witness for Him, not only in this vicinity but beyond.  Through the influence of this church, God has called many into full-time Christian service as pastors, missionaries and laborers for Him.
